Breaking: Veteran center traded on Thanksgiving!

We have a trade on Thanksgiving!

The Montreal Canadiens have officially announced that they have traded 32-year-old veteran center Torrey Mitchell to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a conditional fifth round pick in the draft.

The condition attached to the Los Angeles Kings pick going to Montreal stipulates that should the Kings make the playoffs, the fifth round pick will become a fourth round pick for the Canadiens.

Surprisingly the Habs who have very little depth up the middle are giving up a center in Mitchell who has played in 11 games for them this season, picking up no points but also recording a plus minus rating of 0.

The move will save Montreal just under $900,000 in salary cap space, however as a team with plenty of cap space already that doesn't seem like much of a short-term benefit unless the Canadiens have another move planned on the horizon.

That being said Mitchell was set to be an unrestricted free-agent at the end of the season, and perhaps Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin believes he needs to get value for his assets with his team on track to miss the playoffs.
