Breaking: Veteran centre and D-man hit the waiver wire!
Keystone Press

Following the lift of the NHL roster freeze at 12:01 a.m., teams across the League needed to make a move to get its active roster from 24 to 23 players. Hence, two veteran hit the waiver wire.

The New Jersey Devils placed defenseman Dalton Prout on waivers on Thursday.

The Devils' roster went to 24 players when they activated forward Marcus Johansson off injured reserve on Dec. 21. Due to the roster freeze that went into effect earlier that day, the Devils did not need to make a corresponding move at that time.

Prout has been a frequent healthy scratch with the Devils, but he is not the only one to be placed on waivers.

The Anaheim Ducks placed centre Dennis Rasmussen. The Ducks put Rasmussen in the press box for the past five games. The shutdown defenseman has only averaged 8:54 of ice time this season.

Is a move in the cards for the two players?
