Breaking: Veteran D-man lands on waivers!
Zuma Press

The past few days have been a little quieter on the waivers front in the National Hockey League, and on Friday, one player landed on the wire on Friday.

The Anaheim Ducks have decided to play veteran blue liner Andrej Sustr on waivers today.

Back at the beginning of July, four days after the free agency season kicked off, the free agent signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Ducks, after spending all of his NHL career with the Tampa Bay Lightning. After his deal came to an end in Tampa Bay, and the Bolts did not present him a contract offer, the 27-year-old defender found work in Anaheim.

In four games with the Ducks this season, Sustr has failed to record a point. He has put together six penalty minutes, along with a +1 rating. Sustr had two goals and five assists in 44 games with the Lightning last season. He totalled 10 goals and 63 points in 318 games with Tampa, who signed him as a free agent back in 2012. He was never drafted in the NHL.

Sustr has represented the Czech Republic at the world juniors and World Cup.

If he is not claimed before tomorrow at noon, the veteran defenseman will be assigned to the San Diego Gulls in the American Hockey League.

Many rival teams have been looking to make some changes or add some depth on their back end, so they could take a look at Sustr as an option.

The Ducks have been looking for ways to improve their record, especially after suffering a tough loss at the hands of the Dallas Stars last night.

"We have to look at the games and the things we're doing. Look in the mirror. All of us collectively can play better. We really have to take a hard look at ourselves here," said enforcer Josh Manson after the loss.
