Breaking: Veteran D-man placed on waivers on Thursday!
Zuma Press

While none of the players that landed on waivers on Wednesday were claimed today, there is still lots to talking about when we look at the waiver wire on Thursday.

The New Jersey Devils have decided to send veteran defenseman Eric Gryba on the waiver wire with the desire to send him down to their farm club in the American Hockey League. Corey Masisak of The Athletic was the first to report the breaking news on social media. Gryba will have to report to Binghamton if he is left unclaimed by tomorrow at noon.

The 30-year-old blue liner, who signed with the Devils as a free agent on July 1st of this past summer, has yet to take part in a contest with New Jersey this season. Starting his seventh NHL season, Gryba is still hoping to get back to numbers he managed to put together back with the Ottawa Senators, when he recorded a +9 rating and a +11 differential in back to back seasons in 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Gryba, who was selected in the third round, 68th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Senators, signed with the Devils after weighing offers from Boston and New Jersey. Signed to a two-way contract (with a $300,000 guarantee), he made the Devils’ varsity out of camp as the seventh defenseman, but did not manage to impress the coaching staff, yet...

In the 2017-18 campaign, he played only 21 games as a depth defenseman with the Edmonton Oilers. He recorded two assists and 31 penalty minutes.

More waivers news

Gryba was not the only player to hit the waiver wire on Thursday. The Arizona Coyotes also announced that they were waiving centre David Ullström. Craig Morgan of AZ Central was the first to report the news, which has now been confirmed.

The Coyotes have been moving a lot of pieces around after stating the season with many key players sidelined with injuries. While Ullström has yet to play a game this season, he was bringing some depth to the struggling team. The 29-year-old was selected in the fourth round, 102nd overall in the 2008 by the New York Islanders. He signed as a free agent with the Coyotes back in May.
