Breaking: Veteran defenseman has been traded.

We have some early reports of a trade.

First Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos stated on Hockey Central at Noon that veteran Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith has been traded to the New York Rangers in exchnage for a pair of draft picks, that report has since been echoed by TSN insider Darren Dreger.

TSN insider Bob McKenzie is now reporting that the two picks in the trade are a second round draft selection and a third round draft selection both of which will come in 2017.

Pending a trade call (not official until then), DET will get 2nd rder and 3rd rder, both in 2017, from NYR for Brendan Smith.
