Breaking: veteran defenseman signs one-year deal with Cup contender

The French-Canadian defenseman Francois Beauchemin has agreed to a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks.

Beauchemin, who confirmed the news with the French Sports network TVA Sports on Monday, is going back to his old team for the third time in his career.

The 37-year-old veteran spent last season with the Colorado Avalanche, but his contract was bought out at the start of the summer.

Many fans believed the defender would hang up the skates, but the Ducks have allowed him one more shot in the National Hockey League.
