Big buyout rumored.

While it's still just a rumor at this point, it appears that we can expect at least one buyout prior to the National Hockey League's Expansion Draft for the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period is now reporting that the Los Angeles Kings will be buying out Matt Greene from his current contract, effectively setting him up to be a free agent this summer.

Greene currently has just 1-year left on his deal at $2.5 million per season, and a buyout would immediately allow the Kings to save $1.66 million dollars against their cap for the upcoming NHL season.

However there is also a penalty in the amount of roughly $830,000 against the salary for the following season, although L.A is likely more than happy to pay that to avoid some of the headaches they are currently facing.

The question now becomes whether or not Greene will land on another NHL team at a discount, or if his major injuries over the past two seasons are too much of a risk for him to be touched.
