Breaking: Veteran forward 'looking at $50 million' on his next deal.

A free-agent battle that has begun early this season is that between veteran center Kyle Turris and his team the Ottawa Senators, and it doesn't sound like reaching a resolution will come cheap for the Senators. 

TSN National Hockey League analyst Ray Ferraro was a recent guest on TSN 1040 radio in Vancouver and he was asked about the battle between Turris, one of the Senators most important forwards, and the Senators themselves. It's clear Ferraro believes it will take a lot of money to get Turris signed.

“He’s going to get that. He’s going past that,” said Ferraro of Turris’s new deal as per Fanrag's Chris Nichols. “First of all, he’s represented by Kurt Overhardt, who’s a tough guy, tough negotiator, doesn’t have a lot of easy, easy deals. And this is Kyle’s chance to really smash a fastball here. So he’s got to be looking at $50 million. He has to be.”

That's a big paycheck for notoriously stingy owner Eugene Melnyk to write, and there is a belief that while Turris would be perfectly happy committing to an 8-year-deal with the Sens, general manager Pierre Dorion, or someone above him, is trying to negotiate for a shorter term. 

Turris accounted for 55 points in 78 games last season with the Senators, and is off to a hot start with 2 goals and 5 assists in just 6 games thus far this season. If the Senators do fail to sign him there will be a long list of NHL teams willing to break the bank for Turris.
