Breaking: Veteran goalie appears to have been re-injured tonight.

The Detroit Red Wings are at risk of seeing their incredible playoff streak come to an end this season and the hockey gods aren't doing them any favors.

Veteran goaltender Jimmy Howard was down in the American Hockey League with the Grand Rapids Griffins working on the final stages of his rehab from an MCL sprain suffered back in December when he appeared to once again injure himself.

It's unclear exactly what occurred however we do know that a timeout was called and Howard left the game in the first period. Additionally Pete Wallner of Mlive.com is reporting that Howard was spotted favoring his as he exited the game.

Howard has unquestionably been Detroit's best goalie this season, and his continued absence would be a big blow to any playoff hopes the Red Wings have remaining.
