Breaking: Veteran goalie believed to have suffered a season ending injury.

A National Hockey League franchise has just provided a devastating update on one of their players.

According to a report from Arizona Coyotes insider Craig Morgan it now sounds like veteran goaltender Antti Raanta will miss the remainder of the season due to the existing injury that has kept him out for the last 2 weeks of action. Morgan reports that general manager John Chayka has informed him that Raanta underwent a medical procedure to correct his injury and it was at that time that it was discovered that the damage was far more serious than had originally been believed. We still don't know the specific nature of Raanta's injury but what we do know is that it has to be serious if the Coyotes are already indicating that this may mean the end of his season.

Now to be clear here the Coyotes have not declared Raanta's season over just yet but they have admitted that it is now a possibility which means even in the best case scenario it sounds like Raanta will miss the overwhelming majority of the 2018 - 2019 NHL regular season. Additionally with the Coyotes not looking like they will be a playoff team this season it seems highly unlikely that Raanta will get a chance to play in the postseason even if he could possibly be ready by then.Prior to going down with the injury in late November Raanta had appeared in a total of 12 games for the Arizona Coyotes this season posting a 2.88 goals against average and a .906 save percentage on the season. Raanta's performance in net also reflected the Coyotes own struggles as he was coming off a very strong showing with the Coyotes over 47 games the season prior in which he recorded a 2.24 goals against average and a .930 save percentage.

Thankfully for the Coyotes general manager Chayka acted very quickly when Raanta was injured by picking up goaltender Calvin Pickard who was placed on waivers by the Maple Leafs just one day after the Coyotes were forced to pull Raanta out of a game due this current injury. Of course Chayka did not know the extent of Raanta's injury at the time so this makes the move look all the more savvy.
