While it's not official yet, it sounds like one National Hockey League veteran is leaning towards ending his NHL career.

According to a report from New York Rangers insider Larry Brooks, veteran defenseman Kevin Klein is expected to announce his retirement in the coming days, and again while no official announcement has been made, all signs point to retirement.

From Larry Brooks:

Kevin Klein, who was an integral piece of the Rangers’ run to the 2014 Stanley Cup final and the club’s 2014-15 Presidents’ Trophy season before breaking down last year, is contemplating retirement from the NHL, The Post has learned.

Individuals with knowledge of the situation stressed that a final decision has not been made even as the 32-year-old righty defenseman held a going-away party over the weekend.[pub]

Klein has been dealing with nagging back problems, and was limited to just a single game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Rangers, and given how devstating and complicated back issues can be, it seems fair to suggest this may be playing a large factor in the decision process.

More to come on this story.
