A former National Hockey League superstar has been injured in a multi bus accident.

According to a report from Fox 13 News three people including former NHL forward Vincent Lecavalier have been injured and were in fact hospitalized after an accident involving 3 different buses took place. The report states that the 3 buses were headed to the Gasparilla parade when the accident occurred and it appears that driver error was the cause of this particularly large collision.

From the Fox report:

The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 1:40 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the Selmon Expressway at mile marker 5.

As the lead bus slowed down to exit the expressway, FHP said the bus behind it failed to stop in time and rear-ended the first bus. A third bus then crashed into the back of the second bus.

Following the accident two passengers plus Lecavalier himself were transported by paramedics to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Florida where they were treated for their injuries. The good news here is that it does not appear that Lecavalier was seriously injured in the crash although we do not know the extent of those injuries other than the fact that they were described as "minor."

Although there were 3 buses in the accident only two of the drivers were cited for careless driving, and if I had to guess it would be the driver who rear ended the first bus as well as the driver who rear ended the second bus in the crash. Hockey fans will of course be particularly sensitive when it comes to this topic given the recent bus involved tragedy that struck the hockey world, the accident involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team.

In the Humboldt crash the careless driving of a truck driver cost 16 people their lives, left 13 people injured, and caused a ton of pain and anguish across the entire country of Canada and that wound is still very fresh in the minds of hockey fans. Although it appears no one was seriously injured this time around it's very frustrating to hear how careless people operating large motor vehicles continue to be.

Our thoughts are with Lecavalier and the 2 other victims at this time.
