Breaking: We know exactly what the Avalanche asks for Matt Duchene

That's a steep price to pay.

It is fair to say last season was a complete disaster for the Colorado Avalanche. They recorded 22 wins, 56 losses and 4 overtime losses for only 48 points. They finished dead last in the NHL, more than 20 points from the 29th position. Therefore, it is not a surprise to know that general manager Joe Sakic is actively looking to make changes to his roster.

We heard countless rumors about Matt Duchene, who has been on the trading block for weeks now, and Sakic has reportedly turned down many deals involving him. We may now have a better idea about what he is asking for:

According to the website Eyes on Isles, Colorado asked the New York Islanders for AT LEAST two very promising prospects, in Mathew Barzal and Ilya Sorokin. GM Garth Snow was reportedly very reluctant to trade two young players who could become the core of his team in the next few years. We also reported a few weeks ago that Sakic refused to let 26-year-old go in exchange for defenseman Travis Hamonic and a pair of picks.

Such demands could very well be the reason why Duchene is still part of the Avalanche today.

Duchene played 77 games last season with the Avs, recording 18 goals and 23 assists for 41 points. It is his worst production since 2011-12, when he registered 28 points in 58 games.
