Breaking: Wideman shot himself in the foot with text message.

Many people who have been defending the actions of Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman have been asking themselves why no one in this process has been giving credence to the fact that he suffered a concussion, and now that reason may have just made clear.

Today Gary Bettman revealed in his ruling that he was upholding Wideman's full 20 game suspension, and furthermore indicated that his decision to do so had in part been motivated by Wideman's complete refusal to accept any responsibility for his actions whatsoever.

According to a report from TSN Frank Seravalli those comments from Bettman may have been motivated by a text message Wideman sent dating back to February 2nd. In the message Wideman takes no responsibility, and actually blames the NHL officials and the media for his predicament.

"(t)he only problem and the only reason I'm here is cause the stupid refs and stupid media."

If I was an NHL official and I saw that I would ask for the league to throw the book at Wideman as well, and the media certainly didn't strike Don Henderson in the back.
