When the Minnesota Wild placed veteran forward Matt Read on waivers on Thursday, everyone expected that Joel Eriksson Ek and/or Zach Parise would make a return to the lineup on Friday night for the contest against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Well, it seems like they might have gotten carried away with the return of star forward Parise.

According to team insider Michael Russo of The Athletic, Read clears waivers today but wants loaned back to the AHL in Iowa. It seems like the veteran forward needs to stick around because Parise might not be ready for tonight's game.

Russo noted that Parise did skate earlier today, however, he does not seem right, which means the Wild might wait longer to bring him back into the fold.

At the end of today's practice, Russo revealed that both Eriksson Ek and Parise were game-time decisions, which explains why the Wild has held on to Read despite the fact that he went unclaimed today.

Parise missed two games with a lower-body injury, but also practiced on Thursday morning on a line with Eric Staal and Jason Zucker. He skated on his own the previous days. The Wild is trying to keep its playoff hopes alive and would love to have him back.

After missing the past couple of weeks with a lower-body injury, Eriksson Ek has been back practicing with the team. He took rushes on the third line on Thursday, alongside Victor Rask and opposite Marcus Foligno, and that figures to be where he slots into the lineup if he can play.
