Breaking: Wild place Read on waivers to make for room for a boost up front!

The Minnesota Wild has just announced that the team has placed veteran forward Matt Read on waivers on Thursday.

Read, who had been recalled under emergency conditions last week, will need to move down in order to make some room for Joel Ericsson Ek and/or Zach Parise, who could make a return Friday night against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Parise missed two games with a lower-body injury, but did practice on Thursday morning on a line with Eric Staal and Jason Zucker. He skated on his own the previous day and seems ready for a return, especially now that the Wild is trying to keep its playoff hopes alive.

After missing the past couple of weeks with a lower-body injury, Eriksson Ek has been back practicing with the team, and could make his return to the lineup on Friday as well. He took rushes on the third line, alongside Victor Rask and opposite Marcus Foligno, earlier this week, and that figures to be where he slots into the lineup if he can play.

As for Read, the 32-year-old has played five games this month for the Wild. Before that, he hadn’t played since October. He played a total of 10 games with the Wild this season and has collected just a goal in that span.

If he goes unclaimed, he will once again back with the AHL's farm club back in Iowa.
