Breaking: Wild sign Stalock to three year extension

The Minnesota Wild have announced today that they’ve signed goaltender Alex Stalock to a three year contract extension worth $785,000 per season.

SAINT PAUL -- Minnesota Wild General Manager Paul Fenton on Tuesday announced the NHL club has agreed to terms with goaltender Alex Stalock on a three-year, $2.355 million one-way contract ($905,000 in 2019-20, $700,000 in 2020-21 and $750,000 in 2021-22 for an average annual value of $785,000).

Stalock, 31 (7/28/87), is 6-5-0 with a 2.92 goals-against average (GAA) and a .894 save percentage (SV%) in 14 games (10 starts) with the Wild this season. He ranks T-2nd amongst NHL goalies with two assists and skated in his 100th NHL game on Dec. 6 at Calgary, becoming the seventh Minnesota-born goalie to reach the milestone. Stalock is 17-16-4 with a 2.80 GAA, a .907 SV% and one shutout in 44 games (35 starts) with the Wild including a 10-3-2 record with a 2.12 GAA, a .923 SV% and one shutout in 15 contests (13 starts) at Xcel Energy Center with Minnesota. 

The 6-foot, 195-pound native of Saint Paul, Minn., is 41-35-11 with a 2.55 GAA, a .909 SV% and five shutouts in 106 career NHL games (81 starts) with San Jose and Minnesota. He is 0-1 with a 1.82 GAA and a .931 SV% in four Stanley Cup Playoff contests (one start). Stalock was selected by San Jose in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and was signed as a free agent by Minnesota on July 1, 2016. The Wild re-signed him to a two-year contact on Feb. 2, 2017.

Stalock played three seasons at the University of Minnesota Duluth (2006-09) and ranked first in the NCAA in minutes played and led the Bulldogs to the WCHA playoff championship and the NCAA West Regional Final in 2009. He was named to the NCAA West First All-American Team and the WCHA First All-Star Team in 2009 and the WCHA All-Rookie Team in 2007. Stalock played for Cedar Rapids in the United States Hockey League (USHL) for two seasons (2004-06) and was named the 2006 USHL Goaltender of the Year and the 2005 USHL Playoff MVP as Cedar Rapids won the Clark Cup. He helped South Saint Paul High School to the 2004 Minnesota Class A State Hockey Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
