NHL commissioner Gary Bettman JUST announced that the Minnesota Wild will host the 2021 Winter Classic at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Unfortunately, no opposing team has been named as of yet, but NHL insider Chris Johnston of Sportsnet has his suspicions. Check it out:

I have to say. It’s about time that Minny fans get a game in their own backyard. Frankly, the Minnesota hockey market is one of the strongest in the world and the NHL has done them a terrible disservice when it comes to outdoor games. Good to see that the league is finally throwing a bone to these fans and to the Wild organization.

Now… having said that, can we please not have the Chicago Blackhawks be a part of this? The Blackhawks seemingly play in an outdoor game every other season. My pick? Wilds vs Avs on New Years Day, 2021! Let’s go!

Whoever ends up facing the Wild at Target Field on January 1st, 2021, they'll do so in a beautiful setting. Target Field is home to the MLB's MInnesota Twins and is an open-air stadium. It's the perfect venue for an outdoor hockey game. Should be a beauty!
