Mike Green‘s season with the  Detroit Red Wings is now over.

Head coach Jeff Blashill has just announced that the veteran defenseman will miss the remainder of the year while he recovers from a virus.

Green has been struggling with a virus affecting his liver, which made him miss parts of training camp and the beginning of the season. Earlier this week, the Wings announced that the  illness “ had reactivated and while at first it was believed that he would only miss 7 to 10 days, it will now be for the rest of the season.

Blashill did explain on Thursday that there are no long term concerns for Green, but a specialist recommended multiple weeks of rest.

Green has been dealing with many injuries in the past two seasons. Back in December, he missed 12 games with a foot injury, and last March he had surgery on his neck that forced him to miss the end of the season.

In 43 games this season, Green has five goals and 26 points.

Blashill also announced that star forward Dylan Larkin will miss Thursday’s game against the New York Rangers with a lingering back issue.

The team is expected to know more about the injury on Friday. Larkin has 27 goals and 62 points in 65 games this season.
