The Detroit Red Wings were without two key players last night, but still managed to win 3-2 in a shootout over the New York Rangers. The Wings halted their losing skid at eight.

Forward Dylan Larkin has a lingering back issue that forced him to miss Thursday’s game, while defenseman Mike Green was ruled out for the rest of the season because of the virus that affects his liver.

While the news remained positive about Green, who won't suffer from long term concerns from the illness, there seems to be some worrisome news about Larkin. It has been revealed on Friday that the young forward will seek the help of another specialist to look at his neck strain. He is expected to miss the weekend's action and could possibly return Tuesday.

The 22-year-old leads the Wings in goals (27), assists (35), points (67) and average ice time (21:51) and centers their top line between wingers Anthony Mantha and Tyler Bertuzzi.

The Wings were hoping to get more information on the nature of Larkin's injury today, however, they hope to find out more from this "other specialist." He could end up suggesting rest for the remainder of the season as well, especially since the Wings aren't competing for a spot in the postseason.

We will have to see if Detroit will be able to count on Larkin for the last stretch.
