Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos isn't known as a dominant hitter in the National Hockey League, but that doesn't mean he can't bring the pain.

It was a lesson that Detroit Red Wings star forward Gustav Nyquist learned the hard way on Monday night when a huge hit from Stamkos knocked him out of the game, and may in fact have injured him.

Nyquist lost the puck while skating in the Lightning zone and Stamkos punished him with a bonce crunching hit that appeared to catch Nyquist off guard, and one that sent him crashing to the ice in pain.

In fact Nyquist was so shaken up on the play that he needed two of his teammates to help him off the ice and also had to be helped down the tunnel back to the Red Wings locker room.

Update: Nyquist may have been playing up the drama a little bit because he is back out on the ice with the Red Wings.
