Breaking: Worrisome report from Bruins' morning skate

A few days after writing history, it now seems like there are more worrisome news about Boston Bruins' best player Brad Marchand. On Tuesday night,as he scored his 28th goal of the season in overtime against the Detroit Red Wings, Marchand officially broke a tie with legendary Bruins forward Dit Clapper as well as Glen Murray for the most regular season overtime goals in the history of the Boston franchise.

However, he was no where to be found for Thursday's morning skate as the team got ready to face the Philadelphia Flyers in the evening. The team tweeted that Marchand was not on the ice for pregame skate and that his teammate David Backes was filling in for him on the top line. 

No further details were given - for now - on why Marchand was not present at the team's morning skate - and we will absolutely keep you posted on his status for tonight's matchup against the Flyers. 

If Marchand is to miss some action, it would be another serious blow to the Bruins' lineup ahead of the playoffs as veteran forward and team leader Patrice Bergeron has been on the sideline whit a foot injury. Last Tuesday, the team announced that Bergeron sustained the injury while blocking a shot against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday and will be reevaluated in two weeks. 

The 32-year-old has 27 goals and 54 points with a plus-26 rating in 55 games with the Bruins this season. He surely has no luck when it comes to injuries close to the postseason. Back in the 2013 playoffs, Bergeron suffered through a broken rib, torn cartilage and muscle tissue and a separated shoulder, which he injured during the Game 6 loss and elimination game to the Chicago Blackhawks. It was then revealed that he has played through it all with a small puncture in one of his lungs. 

Bergeron is definitely on the top line in the NHL, as he is playing in his 14th season in the National Hockey League. The two-way forward is on track for his fifth Selke Trophy as the top defensive forward in the league, while also leading the team in goals with 27 tallies. He could also become a strong Hart Trophy candidate for his extraordinary work with the Bruins. 

With Bergeron missing from the Bruins lineup, Marchand and David Pastrnak have been pushing even harder - if that's possible - to make sure the Bruins remain on top ahead of the postseason. 

It was also revealed this week that young defender Charlie McAvoy sustained a sprain of his left MCL and will be re-evaluated in four weeks. McAvoy was injured 37 seconds into Saturday’s victory over the Montreal Canadiens as he appeared to trip awkwardly over the stick of Habs winger Brendan Gallagher in the Bruins zone. McAvoy exited the ice in obvious pain and did not return.

It’s the second injury absense this year for McAvoy. He missed a total of four games between Jan. 23 and Feb. 1 following a routine heart procedure. The Bruins went 3-1 in his absence.
