Breaking: Young forward gets injured on a fluke play during practice!

This is another huge blow for Arizona Coyotes young forward Christian Dvorak's career. The 22-year-old centre was expected to return to action shortly, however, things took a turn for the worst in the past week.

Dvorak will be out “indefinitely” after undergoing surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle, the team announced in a press release Friday.

The young forward had yet play a game this season and was recovering from a “lower body injury” before injuring the pectoral muscle during a rehab skate last week in Glendale, according to Coyotes President of Hockey Operations and General Manager John Chayka.

“Christian was making good progress when he injured his pectoral muscle during practice,” Chayka said in the press release. “It’s unfortunate and unlucky, but the surgery went well today and we expect him to make a full recovery.”

While the good news is that the surgery went accordingly today, there is still no timetable that has been given for Dvorak's return to action. The Coyotes did not provide a timeline of when Dvorak could return to game action, but it stands to reason that Dvorak may be forced to miss the entirety of the 2018-19 season.

Chayka also revealed that Dvorak was just a week away from returning to action from his previous injury. How unlucky is that!

Dvorak registered 15 goals and 22 assists in 78 games last season, his second season in the NHL. He signed a six-year contract extension this offseason that is worth an annual average value of $4.45 million per season.

In the meantime, the Coyotes will need to use younger players and prospects to provide the offense and rack up points to better their position in the standings.

“Hopefully it’s an opportunity for us all to show some maturity as an organization,” Chayka added when he made the announcement. “If you have injuries, guys can step up, and that’s what we’re hoping, an opportunity to show that we’ve built some depth in the organization, that we’re ready to take some steps and compete.”

The Coyotes continue their road trip Saturday afternoon against the Winnipeg Jets.
