Alaska hockey junior defenseman, of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, a branch of the NCAA, Jack Weiss is being shut down for the remainder of the 2017-18 season after being diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this month.

Weiss undergo his first bout of chemotherapy on Tuesday near his hometown of Bloomington, Minnesota, where he will spend the next nine weeks receiving treatment.

Here is what the courageous blue liner had to say in a statement:

"The amount of support I have received from family, friends, teammates and coaches has been incredible and I cannot thank them enough. I am looking forward to beating this and getting back on the ice as soon as possible."

Weiss played in four games for the Nanooks this season, tallying a goal and five shots on goal. Throughout his three years with Alaska, the 23-year-old has played in 40 games, collecting one goal and nine points.

We here at Hockey Feed wish Jack and his family the best of luck in his fight against cancer. Thoughts and prayers with him and his loved ones.
