One young National Hockey League enforcer is looking to send a message to the rest of the league, both with his play and his words.

23-year-old forward Kurtis Gabriel recently spoke to Mike Russo of the Star Tribune and he made it clear that he was coming in to protect his teammates from any shenanigans the opposition might try and pull

“I’m not here for personal glory in fighting. I’m here to help the team,” said Gabriel as per the Star Tribune. “We’re always going to take care of each other, and hopefully that starts to percolate the rest of the team. We don’t take any trash from anyone.”

It was his comments regarding his intent however that really raised some eyebrows, with Gabriel stating that he was out to make a name for himself in this league and warned his opponents that he plays for keeps.

"It’s me making a name for myself in this league. I made a name for myself down [in the minors], but this is another animal. I want to gain the respect of the other guys that do the job but also let them know you’re not going to take any [idiocy]. When I get into a fight, I’m trying to hurt them."

Gabriel has been involved in six fights in his ten career games so he's clearly ready to back it up.
