The Pittsburgh Penguins have been absolutely decimated by injuries and unfortunately all we have for you today Penguins fans is some more bad news.

According to a report from Michelle Crechiolo of Pens Inside Scoop it now appears as though veteran defenseman Brian Dumoulin has now joined a long list of injured Penguins to start the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League regular season. This of course has to be a major headache for head coach Mike Sullivan, who himself confirmed the news, who has now seen a significant portion of his roster sidelined by injuries to start the campaign, this in spite of the fact that the Penguins had a longer than usual layoff over the course of this past summer.

It is unclear at this time how Dumoulin was injured, but Crechiolo is reporting that the injury has been categorized as a "lower body injury." Additionally it sounds like Dumoulin is now expected to miss a minimum of 2 games, and following that period he will then be evaluated by the team's medical staff. This of course means that he could be out for even longer than that, although of course we will have to wait to hear more from the Penguins before we jump to any conclusions.

Additionally Mike Sullivan also provided updates on two other injured Penguins players, forward Evgeni Malkin and forward Alex Galchenyuk. Unsurprisingly, according to Sullivan neither man will be traveling with the team as they head out on their upcoming road trip, however he did have some relatively good news to share regarding both players. It appears as though both Malkin and Galchenyuk hit the ice today and skated with Pittsburgh Penguins skills coach Ty Hennes, which has to be viewed as a positive sign at this point. That being said the two men skated on their own and did not join their teammates for any type of serious practice, which would suggest that they are still a little ways out from their eventual returns to the lineup.

It's a crazy start to the season for the Penguins who list of injured players now include the aforementioned Dumoulin, Malkin and Galchenyuk as well as teammates Bryan RustNick Bjugstad, Jared McCann, and Zach Trotman.
