Brind’Amour makes surprising announcement regarding rookie Svechnikov

When the Carolina Hurricanes take to the ice at PNC Arena for Game 3 in their series against the New York Islanders they may have an added boost. Sure, Petr Mrazek and Trevor van Riemsdyk are still out with injuries, but head coach Rod Brind’Amour announced earlier today that rookie Andrei Svechnikov has been cleared medically and may participate in tonight’s game.

Svechnikov (concussion) will take pre game warmups for Hurricanes tonight and let Brind’Amour know how he feels after. Brind’Amour said it’s Svechnikov’s call if he plays. He has been cleared medically.

Furthermore Sarah Civian of The Athletic is now reporting that Micheal Ferland could also make his return this evening:

I guess Svechnikov and Ferland are game time decisions but sound like they actually could draw in. Svechnikov cleared but it’s a matter of feeling ready for game time. I think the word Brind’Amour’s been told to use is “hopeful”

Suffice it to say that the return of ANY of these players could provide a HUGE boost for a surging ‘Canes team.
