When the minor league Port Huron Prowlers of the FPHL lost their backup goaltender to injury just moments prior to puck drop, they had to act fast.

Meet Jeremy Skiba, radio broadcaster and… well part-time back up goalie apparently.

That’s right, the Prowlers signed their play-by-play man to suit up as backup goalie for the evening and here’s the best part… he did play-by-play from the bench!

Head coach Joe Pace says he was pretty surprised when Skiba himself volunteered for the position.

“I asked him, ‘Are you serious?’ and I asked him nine times after,” Pace said.

Skiba borrowed gear from the team’s usual backup and took to the bench with his microphone also securely attached.

“Originally I wasn’t going to broadcast because I didn’t know if there were outlets near the bench or if we had extension chords,” said Skiba. “

I knew nothing like this had been done in the past, so I knew a broadcast would make history and be such a cool experience for the players and fans. I was pumped once everything was set up for the game as I’ve always wanted to be on the bench for a game and see what it’s like.”

Incredible. Talk about going above and beyond for your team!
