Brock Boeser trade rumour resurfaces with more intense speculation!
Twitter

At the start of the week, things started heating up in Vancouver when when rumours surfaced that the Canucks were seeking a trade partner for 23 year old winger Brock Boeser.

While general manager Jim Benning did not waste time shutting down the rumours, it appears that insiders aren’t dropping the topic.

“I have no intention of trading Brock Boeser. I haven’t had one conversation about that, so I don’t know where this stuff comes from.” - Benning

On Tuesday night, Elliotte Friedman explained that he believes the Canucks have talked to other teams about Boeser in the past. He went on to say how his play will determine what happens because if he lights it up then he isn’t going anywhere.

Therefore, we can assume that rumours will intensify once the playoffs get started.

TSN 1040 host Matt Sekeres, who reported that the team was “exploring the possibility of trading Brock Boeser”, replied to Friedman’s comments, saying he was “waiting on some colleagues in this city to criticize Elliotte for the timing and necessity of this information.”

We don’t know if the Canucks will feel the need to deny the speculations once again. Friedman seemed to be saying that Boeser’s performance in the postseason could play a major role in his future in Vancouver.

Fans are wondering why on Earth would the Canucks consider trading Boeser? Despite some injury problems, the 23-year-old is just coming into his own as one of the NHL’s best snipers. Sure, newcomer Tyler Toffoli may have stolen some of Boeser’s ice-time toward the latter stage of the 2019-20 regular season, but there’s still reason to believe that Boeser will be this team’s top line winger for years to come. The natural chemistry that he and center Ellias Pettersson have will make the Canucks an offensive powerhouse for a decade plus if Benning and the rest of the team’s front office staff play their cards right. He’s also signed to a reasonable $5.8 million cap hit for the next two seasons, so there’s very little reason to trade Boeser now if at all.

However, on Tuesday at the Canucks’ practice, Toffoli was kept with the top unit through the first two days of training camp, even with the return of Boeser…

The real problem for the Canucks is at the bottom end of their roster. Players like Loui Eriksson ($6 million), Tyler Myers ($6 million) Brandon Sutter ($4.3 million) and Jay Beagle ($3 million) are much more likely to be sent packing if and when the Canucks need to free up some money to re-sign Pettersson and burgeoning superstar Quinn Hughes.

But this rumour does not want to die out… I guess we have to say : to be continued…
