New York Rangers veteran forward Chris Kreider has heard his names many times in trade chatter in the recent weeks and it seems like it has gotten the Boston Bruins intrigued.

Josh Wegman of The Score reports that the Bruins could be a good fit for Kreider, however, we are all aware that Boston is cap-strapped at the moment and still need to sign defensemen Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo.

There with just $8 million in cap room at the moment, the Bruins can’t afford Kreider unless they shed a salaried player. Which prompted Lyle Richardson of Spectors Hockey to explain that Boston and New York could decide to lock up in a player for player trade, as the Rangers would send Kreider to the Bruins in return for veteran David Backes.

Backes has also been mentioned more than once in trade rumours recently as the Bruins keep looking at ways to shed salary this summer.

It sounds however a little hard for Boston to pull off a trade anywhere else that would include Backes, because of his hefty deal - unless the Bruins add a sweetener like a first-round pick or a prospect to the mix. The idea of acquiring Kreider in return could be enough to make this deal happen… The move would allow the Bruins to save close to $1.5 million on their cap space.
