The Boston Bruins might just be getting started...

On Wednesday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reported that Minnesota Wild gritty forward Charlie Coyle had been traded to Boston in return for prospect Ryan Donato and a fifth round pick.

The Bruins had been rumoured for weeks to be seeking a boost up front and Coyle seemed to be filling that void, and for a reasonable price as well. However, McKenzie pregame TV hit on NBCSN later on Wednesday that the Bruins might not be done making moves despite having traded for Coyle.

“Even with the Charlie Coyle pending trade with the Boston Bruins, there’s reason to believe the Boston Bruins would be all over [Ottawa Senators' Mark Stone].
“I can tell you this: There are a ton of teams in the National Hockey League that are in a bit of a lather right now because they’re calling Pierre Dorion, they want to know what’s going to happen with Stone. For now they’ve been put off to the side, and they’re getting frustrated because the deadline is on Monday.
“And Stone would be the No. 1 target, bar none - ahead of Panarin, ahead of Duchene, ahead of everybody - at this deadline, if he were made available.”

The Bruins have been said to be after Stone. On Tuesday, Larry Brooks of the New York Post reported that the Bruins are expected to go all in on Stone if the Senators are unable to sign the star forward ahead of the Feb. 25 trade deadline.

Stone, who is carrying a $7.35-million cap hit on his expiring deal, currently leads the Senators with 28 goals and 62 points in 59 games. He has become one of the most coveted rentals on the trade market and there is no wonder why the Bruins would look to acquire his services.

For months now it has been mentioned that Boston would like to bolster their offense ahead of a playoff run. Ever since the team announce that top scorer David Pastrnak was out with a thumb injury, chatter has intensified.

However, the Bruins would have to make a major offer to the Senators in order to pry Stone out of Ottawa. Nobody knows exactly what the asking price is for Stone, but you’d have to think the club would want a first-round pick, a high-end prospect plus another piece in return.
