The summer is not going to get easier on the Boston Bruins, who lost the Stanley Cup in a Game 7 heartbreak to the St. Louis Blues.

It seems like the offseason will be as heartbreaking for some…

Late on Tuesday night, the Bruins signed young forward Danton Heinen to a two-year contract, avoiding arbitration. However, GM Don Sweeney still has two important RFA issues to settle in Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo. There is no other way to put this, the Bruins will be forced to make a trade to get enough funds to sign the two young defensemen.

According to Bruins insider Ty Anderson, Boston currently has about $ 7.3 million available to re-sign the two young players. While they are both RFAs, it is expected that both men will command a significant raise, especially McAvoy.

If the Bruins get Carlo to sign a bid ranging from $ 2 million to $ 2.5 million, Sweeney would have to find a way to convince McAvoy to accept less than $ 5 million a year. And you have to admit: the Bruins simply cannot lose McAvoy, who ranks up more than 25 minutes per game!

That's why Anderson believes the Bruins should move forward David Backes or defensemen Kevan Miller or John Moore to shed salary and have sufficient funds to re-sign their RFAs. It sounds a little hard for Boston to pull off a trade that would include Backes, because of his hefty deal - unless the Bruins add a sweetener like a first-round pick or a prospect to the mix.

They need cash and it seems like it will take a trade first...
