It sounds like Boston’s management and Torey Krug are on the same page. As you may remember, Krug, set to become a free agent on July 1st, expressed his desire to remain with the team saying he was hopeful he hadn’t played his last game with Boston. Bruins GM Don Sweeney was involved in a conference call with reporters today and echoed that sentiment.

"I dearly hope Torey hasn't played his last game (with the Bruins) this year or going forward," Sweeney said on the conference call, according to Conor Ryan of the Boston Sports Journal.

I can't put any assumptions on it, but I can only guess that things are going to look different from a salary-cap perspective next season," Krug said. "Team structures as well are going to be affected by it, but I have no clarity about it. ... It's just the reality of the situation."

AS it stands right now, the Bruins have less than a million in cap space. Krug is on the last year of a four-year contract that paid him $5.25 million per season. Given how he’s played, it stands to reason that the 28-year-old is in line for a big raise, unless he’s willing to take a discount to remain with Boston. And, given where the Bruins stand, that may be the only way they can keep him.

Krug stated recently that there had been no contract talks with the Bruins whatsoever since the league suspended play on March 12th. However, Sweeney stated today that talks had taken place before then.

“We've had very good discussions with Torey's group - we just haven't found a landing spot yet. ... We're hopeful that we'll find a resolution," Sweeney said.
