Torey Krug and the Boston Bruins are currently embroiled in a hard fought, tight checking Stanley Cup Final with the St. Louis Blues, but that hasn’t prevented the rumor mill from working overtime. Specifically when it comes to Krug and his future with the team.

Krug’s four year, $21 million deal expires in the summer of 2020 and there’s speculation that the Bruins simply won’t be able to re-sign him given the money he could command on the open market. So… where does he end up and do the Bruins trade him prior to the free agent period?

On the latest episode of the 31 Thoughts Podcast with Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek, the pair spoke openly about Krug and his options moving forward. Interestingly enough, two team names popped up in discussing Krug’s future.

Check it out:

Marek: “Maybe it’s just because he’s from Livonia (Michigan), but is Detroit an option?”
Friedman: “Oh, I think a lot of teams are going to want that guy… what about the Rangers? Detroit’s obvious and we’ve talked about that…”

Interesting. Krug on the Detroit Red Wings? Krug on the New York Rangers? It seems impossible right now, but you know the old saying… money talks.
