Bruins make unpopular lineup change for Game 7

Earlier today Boston Bruins fans received the good news that injured defenseman Matt Grzelcyk WILL play in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final tonight against the St. Louis Blues at TD Garden.

Unfortunately, for some Bruins fans at least, Cassidy also announced that veteran forward and former Blues captain David Backes will NOT play tonight. He’ll sit and watch from the press box in favor of rookie Karson Kuhlman. Bruins insider Joe McDonald of The Athletic confirmed the news earlier and wrote an excellent column on just how difficult it will be for Backes to sit on the sidelines for tonight’s game:

Of course, Backes was a scratch in favor of Kuhlman for Game 6, so this isn’t a lineup change per se, but there were still Bruins fans (and likely Blues fans) who hoped that the veteran Backed would get back into the lineup.
