Bruins plan blockbuster deal following Pastrnak's freak injury!

The Boston Bruins were already said to be buyers at the upcoming NHL trade deadline, however now, they might have to be the biggest buyers of all. The team announced on Tuesday that they will be without leading scorer David Pastrnak for at least the next two weeks after the star winger underwent surgery to repair a thumb injury. The injury took place late Sunday night as Pastrnak fell while leaving a sponsorship dinner with teammates.

The freak injury is now pushing the Bruins to make a quick decision on their approach to the trade deadline. In the recent weeks, general manager Don Sweeney acknowledged publicly that he needs offensive help, and now with the loss of Pastrnak, that need is urgent.

The pressure is on in Boston, who has maintained a good place in the rankings en route to a playoff run. The Bruins currently sit in third place in the Atlantic with 70 points, however, arch rivals Montreal Canadiens are just one point behind in a tight race in the East.

Pastrnak has enjoyed another dominant season in Boston, tallying 31 goals and 66 points this year with the Bruins. Last season, the Czech forward posted a career-high 35 goals and 80 points, and 34 and 70 one year prior.

This is surely the biggest blow to the Bruins this season, despite the team having dealt with many injuries since the start of the regular calendar back in October.

This could push the Bruins to make a splash, similar to the one they pulled during last year's trade deadline. Right before the 2018 deadline, the Bruins made a blockbuster move for New York Rangers forward Rick Nash, trading forwards Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey and defenseman Ryan Lindgren, in addition to a first-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft and a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Boston could focus in on Philadelphia Flyers' Wayne Simmonds or Columbus Blue Jackets' Artemi Panarin, either player would create a lot of buzz no doubt. However, nothing guarantees that one of the two pending free agents would agree to sign long term in Boston, which means the price might be too astronomical to pay to get this major offensive boost.
