It seems that even pro hockey players can’t avoid politics in the USA these days. Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson, a highly touted 20 year old center originally from Sweden signed a three year entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins over the weekend, but is unable to play for the team until his immigration status can be resolved. When that happens is anyone’s guess.

Further frustrating matters for the player and his team is the fact that he’s been residing in the United States for the past four years playing for Boston University of the NCAA and the Omaha Lancers of the USHL. However because the country deals with the status of students and paid contractors differently, Forsbacka-Karlsson will have to wait and see the process out before getting into any game action for the Bruins.

In the meantime Forsbacka-Karlsson, who was drafted 45th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft,  suited up for his first practice with the Bruins and ran drills alongside injured Bruins Jimmy Hayes, Tim Schaller and Frank Vatrano. Once Forsbacka-Karlsson is cleared to play Bruins fans can expect him to provide some offence on the team’s bottom six as he produced 33 points in just 39 games at BU this season.
