Interstate 95 between Providence, RI and Boston, MA has seen its fair share of pro hockey players in the past couple weeks. The bad luck Boston Bruins have had a rash of injuries and have had to rely on its AHL affiliate in Providence to fill its roster spots. Well….that trend continues this morning as the Bruins announced two new emergency recalls.

Defensemen Tommy Cross and Matt Grzelcyk will both join the Bruins today in advance of game 3 against the Ottawa Senators tonight. Both defenders will help a banged up blue line that has Torey Krug, Brandon Carlo, Colin Miller and Adam McQuaid all out with injury.

Cross, a 27-year old former 2nd round pick of the Bruins, has had a career year in the AHL putting up 12 goals and 35 points in 74 games. Grzelcyk is seen as having a bit more upside than Cross, being just 23 years old and in only his first pro season. He’s looked good this season with 6 goals and 32 points in 70 games for the P Bruins.
