Bruins release update on Chara’s condition

The Boston Bruins managed to sweep the Carolina Hurricanes after a 4-0 win in the fourth game of the series to move on to the Stanley Cup final. And they did so without their captain Zdeno Chara.

The veteran blue liner did not take part in the pregame warmups and was ruled out of Game 4 against the Canes in the last minutes prior to the contest last night.

The Bruins listed Chara as day-to-day. John Moore entered the lineup in Chara’s absence.

Once the Bruins confirmed their shoutout win, Chara was on the ice in full uniform and joined his teammates for the post-series handshake line with Carolina. He also took the team picture with the Prince of Wales trophy - without touching it, of course.

After the game, head coach Bruce Cassidy provided an update on Chara, explaining that the giant defenseman is expected to be ready for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final.

“We don’t believe it is serious.”

The Bruins might have decided to play it safe when they took Chara out of the lineup last night. Now the team has time to rest before they know if they will be facing the St. Louis Blues or the San Jose Sharks to get to the trophy they want to touch.
