Another overtime game, another heartbreaking defeat for the Boston Bruins to the Ottawa Senators. Only this time, the sting of defeat will last throughout the playoffs and into the offseason for the Bruins. When dissecting defeat at the hands of the Sens, one of the Bruins’ young players took the brunt of the blame and put the team’s game 6 defeat on his own shoulders.

While back checking and putting pressure on Clarke MacArthur, 20 year-old David Pastrnak got tangled up with the Sens forward and was called for hooking in overtime. The Senators took advantage of the opportunity and it was MacArthur who scored the game winner as Pastrnak could only watch from the penalty box. “It was a good call…it’s a tough one to overlook. We just didn’t get it done on the penalty kill,” said head coach Bruce Cassidy after the defeat.

Pastrnak, usually a boisterous, smiling kid full of energy, looked defeated and dejected after the game. It was an unusual look for the electric young talent. All he could muster for reporters afterward was, “…obviously it’s really tough, but it’s good experience.”

It’s a tough way for the season to end for the youngster, but Bruins fans expect him to bounce back next season and be an even bigger part of the team moving forward.
