The Boston Bruins will be heading into the Stanley Cup Final with something that neither team from the Western Conference can boast, a core group of players who can say that 'not only have we been to the show before, but we have won it all.' It is that championship pedigree that have many believing that the Boston Bruins can do it once again this season, but even champions may need help at times.

Every single Stanley Cup Playoff run comes with its own unique challenges for every team taking their shot at hockey's holy grail and the Boston Bruins have been no exception this time around. The Bruins had to go through 2 grueling series before reaching the Eastern Conference Final, facing a young and dynamic Toronto Maple Leafs team in the 1st round and a Blue Jackets squad  that was heavily bolstered at the trade deadline in the 2nd round. It is true that the Bruins caught something of a break in the Conference Final by meeting a depleted Carolina Hurricanes team that simply did not have the gas to continue competing with the Bruins at this stage of the season, but that 4 game sweep of the Hurricanes will create an entirely new problem for the Boston Bruins.

Their upcoming 11 day layoff will be the biggest of their season thus far by quite a wide margin, and managing to keep yourself in game shape both mentally and physically during such a long layoff can prove to be a major challenge in its own right. The Bruins however are well aware of this and are reportedly already taking measures to address the issue of the long layoff by consulting with another local team. As it turns out the Boston Bruins have been sitting on a secret weapon in their own backyard this whole time.

"There’s a local team that’s had time between when they’re going to the Super Bowl. We are gonna look at different resources that have done it and done it well...I think we’re gonna reach out to their group," said Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney on Saturday.

That's right, the Boston Bruins are going to solicit help from the reigning Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots during the 11 days they have to prepare for either the St. Louis Blues or the San Jose Sharks. The Patriots of course will not be giving the Bruins any aid when it comes to strategizing for hockey, but I have no doubt they will be invaluable when it comes to helping the Bruins with their off ice preparation.
