Last Thursday, Edmonton Oilers goalie Jack Campbell started in just his third game in 21 days, but he failed to impress.

Since signing that five-year, $25-million deal this summer, Campbell has offered the Oilers terrible numbers in between the pipes: a 4.12 goals-against average and a save percentage of .872.

The Oilers have therefore decided to trust Stuart Skinner in most of the latest starts, and on Wednesday, Edmonton announced that he will be the one to face the one of the last teams in the NHL, the Arizona Coyotes.

Campbell didn’t get the reset the Oilers expected him to undergo after his 12-days off. Since he got back, he’s posted terrible save percentages in his three games: .903, .870 and .833 against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.

And so, he does not get another chance for now. Even against the Coyotes.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman recently wondered if the Oilers could use a shocking approach to get an answer from Campbell… First, the insider said that perhaps the Oilers should consider keeping Campbell away from media for a while, seeing that he beats himself up and it looks to affect his confidence. Friedman and host Jeff Marek then wondered about the possibility of placing Campbell on waivers, comparing his situation to Cal Petersen’s in Los Angeles when the Kings placed him on the wire last week.

However, this brutal message, that Campbell does not even deserve a chance against the struggling Coyotes, might be what the goalie needs to wake the hell up.
