Calvin De Haan confused by horrendous Leafs trade proposal

This is why we love social media!

Nowadays, anyone with a social media account, the right hashtags and respectable reach can put information out there for fans to discuss and criticize. However, you have to remember that players also have social accounts and can read what has been said about them. And in certain situations, they will feel the need to respond and challenge what has been said.

Defenseman Calvin De Haan joined the Carolina Hurricanes during the summer, signing his first unrestricted free agent deal, however, with the ongoing William Nylander contract dispute in Toronto, it seems like the Hurricanes have been caught up the trade chatter since the start of the impasse. One particular fan got caught up as well and brought forward his own trade theory. However, he made the mistakes to tag De Haan in his trade proposal to the Maple Leafs and the blue liner did not waste time to reply to this suggestion.

Here is the Leafs trade proposal:

TRADE IDEA:

To Carolina: William Nylander
To Toronto: Calvin De Haan, 2019 3rd rounder@MapleLeafs @NHLCanes @wmnylander @cal_dehaan

To which De Haan asked: Why am I tagged in this?

Cleary, De Haan was upset to be involved in the trade rumours. They have mostly included his teammates Brett Pesce and Jaccob Slavin, however, many insiders believe Slavin is off limits in the mind of Canes general manager Don Waddell, and some think the Maple Leafs would be looking for more if offered Pesce.

While De Haan seemed confused about the trade proposal, Leafs fans were simply infuriated and called out the fan for making this horrendous trade suggestion. Many noted that De Haan was a free agent in the offseason and if ever the Leafs wanted him this badly, they would have finalized a deal with the 27-year-old blue liner back in the summer. It would be a step backwards as the Leafs could get a much more interesting return for Nylander.

Once again, everyone has access to social media, so if you put something out there that people do not like, they won't shy away from telling you. Don't we know it...
