Cameras catch Max Domi calling Kasperi Kapanen a “F***ing idiot.”

The Toronto Maple Leafs looked like they would cruise to a relatively easy victory on Saturday night when they took a 3 goal lead over the Montreal Canadiens, however the Maple Leafs couldn't tighten things up down the stretch and the result was a surprising comeback for the Habs who would eventually claim victory in the shootout by a score of 6 - 5.

Although there were a number of mistakes from a number of Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday all of the focus on Sunday morning is going to be on one particular play that took place during Toronto's 3rd period collapse. The Leafs allowed a whopping 4 goals in that frame alone but it was the error from Toronto Maple Leafs forward Kasperi Kapanen that truly felt like the turning point in the game, and it was clear that some members of the Habs bench felt this was the case as well. 

A clearly frustrated Kapanen had just lost his stick after the blade had snapped off and instead of dropping it to the ice like he should have, he decided to toss it at an opposing player. That player was none other than Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry and as per the rules of the National hockey League this meant that Petry would be awarded a penalty shot on the play. As we now know Petry would make good on his opportunity, a goal that would tie the game at 4 - 4 in the 3rd period, and you would be hard pressed to argue that this was not the critical moment in the Habs comeback last night. 

There's no doubt in my mind that Kapanen already feels bad about the mistake he made and no doubt he heard about it after the fact from the Maple Leafs' coaching staff, but it was the reaction of Montreal Canadiens forward Max Domi that may sting the most if he ever actually sees it. Domi could be seen mocking Kapanen from the Habs bench after the play and, although there was no audio from the camera shot, there was absolutely no doubt about what Domi was saying to the Leafs forward following the Petry goal. Domi can be seen clearly mouthing the words "f***ing idiot," at Kapanen, and I have to say I think even many Maple Leafs' fans are likely nodding their head in agreement with Domi this morning.
