The Canadiens, and specifically head coach Michel Therrien may have been overly optimistic about the recovery of his top defenseman P.K. Subban.

Yesterday reports surfaced suggesting that Subban would make his return this week, and Therrien told the media he was hopeful that Subban could return as early as Thursday when the Canadiens face off against the Anaheim Ducks. Subban however will not play, and the Canadiens announced through social media that Therrien had confirmed Subban would not be available against the Detroit Red Wings.

Subban told the media today that he is still feeling the effects of the injury, and is taking a cautious approach to his recovery.

"I've still got some symptoms from the injury and they don't want me back here unless I'm 100 percent," Subban said as per NHL.com. "My thing is I just want to take it day by day and try to be patient. This is the first time in my career I've ever been out of the lineup for an injury, so every day that passes I get more and more anxious, but that's why we have the best training staff in the world. I trust in these guys."

Subban says he will put his trust in the Canadiens medical staff and will return once they give him the green light. Given how serious neck injuries can be and Montreal's current placement in the standings, they can probably afford to play it safe with Subban.
