There may be some fans who are upset at this announcement, fans who have already had all they can stomach of the former first round pick, but at the end of the day this is a relatively reasonable deal.

According to an official announcement from the Montreal Canadiens organizaton, the team has come to terms on a new one way contract with once promising prospect Michael McCarron. The news comes as something of a surprise given just how poorly McCarron's development has progressed within the Habs organization, although the details of this contract offer will make it clear that the Canadiens are putting very little faith in him in spite of the new deal.

The official announcement on the Canadiens website has revealed that McCarron will earn the bare minimum he can at the National Hockey League level, that is a salary of $700,000 per season, on his one year deal. That being said he may not earn anywhere near that much however as this deal will be a two way contract, a move that indicates McCarron will be spending a healthy amount of time in the American Hockey League playing for Montreal's affiliate team the Laval Rocket. Although he would no doubt make considerably less at the AHL level his new deal comes with a guarantee that he will pull away at least $125,000 even if he does play in the American Hockey League for the entire season.

In spite of the high hopes the Canadiens had for the 24 year old winger when they initially drafted him in 2013, he has never truly lived up to the hype the Canadiens and their fans created around him. Instead since 2013 he has gone on to appear in just 69 regular season games. In spite of his time at the NHL level his point totals are sorely lacking with just 2 goals to his name and 6 assists for a total of 8 points at the NHL level.

In spite of his physical gifts it is hard to imagine a scenario in which McCarron works his way back into a regular role at the NHL level, and it seems that based on his two way contract that the Canadiens do not expect it to happen.
