Canes give strange reason to why Aho hasn’t spoke out on offer sheet yet

The Montreal Canadiens pulled a shocking move on Monday, signing Carolina Hurricanes restricted free-agent forward Sebastian Aho to a five-year, $42.27-million offer sheet. It was the first time since 2013 that an offer sheet had been signed.

A day later, Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon revealed his club will match the offer sheet during a conference call in which Aho himself was notably absent.

Wanting to know more about why Aho did not take part into the call, nor expressed his feelings on the situation, Ken Campbell of the Hockey News got the weird explanation from the the team that Aho had missed the call due to technical issues from Finland.

After speaking with his agent Gerry Johnannson, who was roasted by Canes’ owner, Campbell got a few more details on what’s happening since the Habs tendered the offer sheet.

The agent is keeping in touch with his client and isn’t worried about the things said by the Hurricanes since he stated that Aho wanted to play for the Canadiens.

"I've been called worse and I'll probably be called worse in the future."

Maybe Aho needed dust to settle before talking about the offer sheet and his return to Carolina. We might know more in the coming days…
