As the trade deadline approaches, Vancouver Canucks fans only want to know one thing: that veteran Alex Edler, a fan favourite and long-time Canuck, won’t be shopped to a contending team prior to Monday's trade deadline.

The Canucks remain in a tight playoff race, and general manager Jim Benning needs to decide now if he wants to buy, stand pat or sell one of his best players in order to get a tremendous return to help his team in the future.

Edler is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and contending teams would pay up to acquire his services. However, it seems like the Canucks and the veteran blue liner are working hard to get a deal in order to send the message across the league that he will be a Canuck for life.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, talks have continuing between Benning and Edler's camp which should kill all trade speculations at this moment. While a deal has yet to be reached, it sure seems like it's heading in the right direction.

Pierre LeBrun of the Athletic has recently reported that rival clubs ave recently been calling “a little more frequently” on Edler. Teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars and New York Islanders were said to be interested in putting their hands on Edler for the playoff stretch.

However, the veteran had made it clear he would prefer to stay in Vancouver and with his no-trade clause in his expiring deal, Edler has the reigns on a potential trade.

But it seems like a deal could be in place shortly to help Canucks fans breathe a little better as the trade deadline looms.
