The Vancouver Canucks have just confirmed some terrible news and this one is about as close to worst case scenario as you're gonna get.

According to a report from Sportsnet's Vancouver Canucks insider Dan Murphy, the Canucks have just announced that forward Josh Leivo will now be out of action for months as the result of a fractured knee cap. It was none other than head coach Travis Green who delivered the news confirming that the team expected Leivo to miss at least the next 2 to 3 months as a result of this injury.

This will no doubt be a huge source of frustration for fans of the organization but especially so for those who watch Vancouver's Thursday night game against the Las Vegas Golden Knights, the game in which Leivo was injured. That is due to the way in which Leivo got injured, via a very questionable hit from Las Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Nick Holden. Holden appeared to shove Leivo from behind near the boards, a move that resulted in the Canucks forward falling awkwardly into the boards, leaving him with what we now know to be that fractured knee cap. You can see from the short replay of the incident that it is easy to see how it is Leivo's knee cap that took the brunt of the impact.

To make matters worse for the Canucks there was no penalty called on the play and they have now lost one of their regular forwards to a long term injury that could see him miss the vast majority of this current season. Leivo was off to a good start this year as well with 7 goals and 12 assists for a combined 19 points through his first 36 games played. When you consider that he totalled just 18 points over 49 games with the Canucks last season this may be a sign that he was on the upswing with the organization. Unfortunately that will all be put on hold until Leivo returns, and with that long of a layoff who even knows if he will be able to recapture any part of the form that he was showing thus far this season.
