Might be time to “protect the asset”.

Reports earlier today indicated that trade talks have picked up considerably when it comes to Vancouver Canucks’ captain Bo Horvat. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman admitted how he believes it is getting closer to an actual trade with suitors getting serious, and teams stepping up in the process.

Trade chatter has escalated so much on Friday that many fans and pundits are starting to wonder if the Canucks will consider sitting out Horvat in the next few games, especially with Vancouver playing two games this weekend.

It might time to protect the asset in order to prevent any injury that could occur while Horvat plays, which could quickly put an end to all the trade rumours and suitors wanting to add the Canucks’ captain to their roster ahead of the postseason.

The Boston Bruins, along with the Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche have been mentioned as serious contenders for Horvat, but other teams the Tampa Bay Lightning, Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings and Seattle Kraken and New Jersey Devils aren’t being ruled out. The Kraken could even be trying to trade for him and get him signed to a long-term deal.

Horvat, who was just named into the All-Star roster on Thursday, is pending unrestricted free agent on a mission, collecting 30 goals — just one shy of his career high set in 2021-22 — for 49 points in 44 games.

While he is so important to the Canucks at the moment amidst the dreadful season and talks of firing head coach Bruce Boudreau, this might be the best call to make in order to keep Horvat healthy and allow the Canucks to get the best return possible in a trade.
